About Me
Hello,
I am Nayonika Manna. I am a student journalist and have worked as a content writer and copywriter. I was also a member of the marketing team of a student-run youth union called The Unheard Society. Presently, I am also a social media strategist!
My Journey
In our ever-evolving world, the pivotal role of journalism in our society cannot be overstated. Today, with the influence of social media, information is easily accessible, molding our perspectives on policies, individuals, and events.
My fascination with journalism traces back to my childhood. Even as a youngster, I was drawn to uncovering the root causes of issues and staying curious about everything around me. The allure of gaining a firsthand perspective through journalism intrigued me deeply. As I grew, I realised the profound impact journalists have on enlightening society.
My academic journey reflects my commitment to this passion. Achieving 96.40% in my 10th standard from N. L. Dalmia High School and securing 88.40% in Humanities at Mithibai College of Arts in 2022, affiliated with the University of Mumbai, laid the groundwork. I am currently a BA Journalism (Hons) student at City St. George's, University of London and am ongoing an exchange program in Toronto Metropolitan University (Fall Semester) and Danish School of Media and Journalism (Spring Semester). These experiences have not only exposed me to diverse cultural dimensions, legal frameworks, and societal intricacies but has also provided me with an understanding of media law, ethical journalism, digital media, and broadcasting, enriching my perspective on people and their stories.
With my hands-on experience in broadcasting equipments and various applications like Adobe Audition, Premiere Pro, Lightroom Classic, and Canva, I have a knack for multimedia storytelling. My proficiency in using Mezzos and Nikon cameras, coupled with my record of creating compelling radio and TV news packages, reflects my commitment to honing practical skills in journalism.
Outside of academics, I’ve actively engaged in practical experiences, serving as a content and copywriting intern at My Equation (formerly Tech Analogy) in India. Presently, I leverage my skills as a social media strategist for Aristocaters in Toronto, and I take pride in having articles published in my school’s yearbook.
Additionally, my involvement as a Digital Student Ambassador and initiating the "Reading Across the Aisle" project demonstrate my proactive nature and passion for fostering critical thinking among peers.
My engagement with real-world issues extends beyond the media landscape. Volunteering at Cancer Research UK provided invaluable insights into human issues, enriching my understanding of diverse perspectives and strengthening my empathy, a quality I believe is crucial in journalism.
