About Me

Hello,

I am Nayonika Manna. I am a storyteller and journalism student exploring global affairs, identity, and culture through words, visuals, and voices.

My Journey

In our ever-evolving world, the pivotal role of journalism in our society cannot be overstated. Today, with the influence of social media, information is easily accessible, molding our perspectives on policies, individuals, and events.

My fascination with journalism traces back to my childhood. Even as a youngster, I was drawn to uncovering the root causes of issues and staying curious about everything around me. The allure of gaining a firsthand perspective through journalism intrigued me deeply. As I grew, I realized the profound impact journalists have on enlightening society.

My academic journey reflects my commitment to this passion. Achieving 96.40% in my 10th standard from N. L. Dalmia High School and securing 88.40% in Humanities at Mithibai College of Arts in 2022, affiliated with the University of Mumbai, laid the groundwork. I am currently a BA Journalism (Hons) student at City St George's, University of London. My degree has since taken me across borders to Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada, and the Danish School of Media and Journalism (DMJX), Denmark, where I’ve learnt courses in Queer Media, Reporting on Race, Advertising, Feature Video Journalism, International Reporting, and more. These experiences have not only exposed me to diverse cultural dimensions, legal frameworks, and societal intricacies but have also provided me with an understanding of media law, ethical journalism, digital media, and broadcasting, enriching my perspective on people and their stories.

Professionally, I currently work with TIES as a journalist, editor, Co-head of Content and Podcast Co-head. Alongside these, I serve as an SCC Global Opportunities Ambassador at City, University of London, where I support staff and students involved in international exchange programmes. In this role, I help promote the SCC Global Opportunities Exchange, guide inbound exchange students, facilitate discussions, and provide insights into studying and living in London. This position has allowed me to strengthen my communication, cultural sensitivity, and leadership skills, all vital in journalism and international collaboration. My previous role as a Social Media Manager at Aristocaters in Toronto honed my skills in digital storytelling and content strategy, while my internship at My Equation (formerly TechAnalogy) in India deepened my experience in research, SEO writing, and content creation.

Beyond academics and work, I’ve been actively involved in initiatives that foster community and dialogue, from serving as a Digital and Events Student Ambassador to conceptualising the Reading Across the Aisle project that encourages open-minded discussion among students.  Volunteering with organisations like Cancer Research UK has further shaped my empathy and understanding of human stories, qualities that I believe are essential to good journalism. Today, as a multimedia storyteller with hands-on experience in broadcasting, editing, and digital content, I aim to use journalism to inform, inspire, and make a difference in how people see the world.

With my hands-on experience in broadcasting equipment and various applications like Adobe Audition, Premiere Pro, Lightroom Classic, and Canva, I have a knack for multimedia storytelling. My proficiency in using Mezzos and Nikon cameras, coupled with my record of creating compelling radio and TV news packages, reflects my commitment to honing practical skills in journalism.
