Brick Lane derives its name from bricks and tile manufacture started in the 15th century, which used the local brick earth deposits. In the later 20th century, many Bangladeshi immigrants from Sylhet region settle in Brick Lane. This gave the region the name “Banglatown”, and people can spot shops and street signs written in Bengali language.
